Welcome Illini families! Summer will be here before we know it. If you are looking for safe, reliable, and engaging childcare for your elemntary school aged child during the summer days, then look no further!

Campus Recreation is excited to offer another year of Active Illini Day Camp: a summer camp program for elementary school children in the Champaign-Urbana community. The program is open to rising first graders through rising sixth graders.

Logistics

Dates/Hours Cost

Monday, June 3 – Friday, August 2*

  • Operating hours: 8:30am-4:30pm
  • Early arrival: 7:30-8:00am (no additional cost)
  • Pick up: 4:30-5:30pm

*No camp Monday, July 1 – Friday, July 5

Cost is dependent on membership status at the time of billing.

  • Campus Rec Members: $225/week
  • Non-members: $270/week

Payment is not due at the time of registration. You will be prompted to pay via email before the start of each week of camp you have registered for.

Registration

Registration for Summer 2024 will open on Wednesday, February 28th at 9am. Please review the instructions below to ensure your family is ready to register. Please note that if you do not already have an Active Illini account and are not affiliated with the university, it will take 24-48 hours to activate your account. You can sign up for an Active Illini account before camp registration opens.

Steps to Register

1.) Log in or sign up for an Active Illini account

University-Affiliated Registrants

If you are affiliated with the University of Illinois, click on "Sign In" and the "Campus Login" button and sign in to your Active Illini account with your campus credentials (Illinois email and password). Registrants affiliated with the university have an existing Active Illini account whether or not they are Campus Recreation members.

Non-University Affiliated Registrants

If you are not affiliated with the University of Illinois or do not already have an Active Illini account, you will need to create an account to register for Active Illini Day Camp. Refer to the Active Illini page for steps on how to sign up for an account. Please note that it can take 24-48 hours for your account to be activated. Once activated, you will be sent a username, password, and instructions on how to log in to your account.

2.) Add campers to your profile

Once logged in, navigate to your Active Illini profile by clicking on your picture/email in the top right corner and selecting "Profile". Scroll down and click the "Add Family Member" button to add your Active Illini campers.

3.) Register for camp

Once you've added your campers to your Active Illini profile, navigate to the Active Illini Day Camp registration page via the left sidebar or "Program & Class Registration" section. Sign up for the weeks that fit your family's schedule.

Payment is not due at the time of registration. You will be prompted to pay via email before the start of each week of camp you have registered for.

Active Illini Day Camp utilizes Campus Recreation's state-of-the-art facilities, CRCE M-T and T-F, and the ARC on Fridays.

Activities & Programming

Active Illini Day Camp engages participants in active and collaborative programming throughout each day of camp. Activities are always structured by camp staff and include but are not limited to, recreational sports, swimming, rock-climbing, independent and organized crafts, board games/puzzles, and instructional cooking/nutrition exercises. Your child will participate in these activities both in groups and independently, providing social and individual skills development. Daily activities will be held both indoors and outdoors (weather dependent). Our intention is to ease the stress of your family’s summer months by providing parents with safe and reliable childcare and providing our campers with engaging and FUN programming!

Active Illini Day Camp also takes weekly field trips around the UIUC campus, giving your camper the opportunity to experience many of the wonderful amenities and people the university has to offer. More information about field trips will be forthcoming!

Campers will be split into four age groups:

  • 5-6 years old: Lil’Illini
  • 7-8 years old: Orange Group
  • 9-10 years old: Blue Group
  • 11-12 years old: Illini Group

Food

  • Lunch: Campers are required to bring their lunch M-T and TH-F every week. While at the ARC every Wednesday, campers will walk across the street to Ikenberry Dining Hall where lunch will be provided.
  • Snacks: Morning and afternoon snacks will be provided. Alternative snack options will be provided for campers with allergies or dietary restrictions. If you would like to provide your child with their own snack options, you may do so.
  • Nut Policy: We will not be enforcing a no-nut policy at Active Illini Day Camp.

Part-Time Staff

Our staff will be composed of three different positions. Camp Coordinators, Group Leads, and Camp Counselors. All are dedicated to your ensuring first and foremost that campers are safe, but also ensuring campers enjoy themselves and are following the rules put in place by the admin team.

Camp Coordinators

This position serves as the on-site student supervisor. They will be in charge of assisting the admin team with facilitation and implementation of the day-to-day schedule as well as the supervision of both camp staff and campers alike. Our Camp Coordinators have a multitude of experience with youth programming and are passionate about the growth and development of young people in our community. They will report to the admin team and will assist them in administrative duties as well.

Group Leads

This position will serve as the manager of their designated age group and will lead them through their daily activities. Each age group will always operate with two Group Leads. This position will ensure the safety of all campers and move their group through the daily schedule in a timely manner. This position will also supervise all Camp Counselors working in their group. Group Leads will report both to the Camp Coordinators and the admin team.

Camp Counselors

The Camp Counselor position will be responsible for assisting in the supervision and safety of all children in their age group. This position will interact consistently with the children under their supervision and accompany them throughout each activity in the daily schedule. This position will also assist Group Leads with instruction in enforcing camp rules and behavior standards. Camp Counselors will report to their Group Leads and Camp Coordinators.
