Ice Hockey
Full equipment is strongly recommended for all hockey programs. Helmet with full cage/shield and hockey skates are required. To be added to hockey or skating interest lists, email ui-icearena@illinois.edu.

Adult Rat Hockey

Non-officiated, drop-in games for adult patrons, ages 18 and older.

Guidelines

  • Split into teams
  • Games may be co-rec and vary in skill levels
  • Basic hockey skating skills are suggested
  • Full gear and a helmet with a shield is REQUIRED to play in this program
  • Limited to 28 skaters and 4 goalies
  • Must show ID, sign up, pay, and receive a wristband before you take the ice
  • Dates and times can be found on the Ice Arena calendar and will be sent to the ice skating listserv

Log into you Active Illini account and under “Program & Class Registration” you can sign up and pay 3 days before the session to secure a spot on the ice. When you arrive at the rink, all you’ll have to do is check in at the Customer Service Desk to get your wristband.

Stick and Puck Beginner Hockey

No-contact, informal time on the ice for individuals and/or families to practice their skills, not for full scrimmage. Private lessons can also be given during this time.

Guidelines

  • Ice will be split in half to separate age and skill level
  • Dates and times can be found on the Ice Arena calendar and will be sent to the ice skating listserv
  • Must pay online and receive wristband before you take the ice
  • Helmet with full cage required for patrons ages 17 and under
  • Helmet required and full cage strongly recommended for patrons ages 18 and over
  • Hockey skates required for ALL ages
  • Coaches must sign in, provide proof of insurance and pay before taking ice

Senior Rec Hockey League

Non-check recreational hockey for select members of the campus community and the public.

Guidelines

  • Must be a graduate student, faculty/staff, or community member age 21 and over
  • Students interested in participating can contact the Ice Arena email to be added to the waitlist of the league.
  • Full gear and a cage are required.
