Whether you are looking to get off the ground or go to new heights, we offer a variety of short clinics designed to teach you the basics.

Climbing 101: Intro to Climbing
Participants will learn and practice fundamental climbing techniques, climbing gear use, climbing wall operations and expectations, and everything else needed to safely climb at a gym. Topics include balance and posture, what to look for in your harness and shoes, various hand positions, route difficulty ratings, and more. Staff will provide personal coaching and everyone will have time to practice. If you've never learned the fundamentals, or if you've never climbed, this class is for you. No climbing knowledge or gear is required.
Register/pay at the ARC adventure center any time during climbing wall operating hours.

Spring 2013 Sessions
All classes will meet on Tuesday nights from 9-11 pm at the ARC climbing wall.

The final class will focus on instruction specific to the top-rope belay endorsement. All participants will receive the top-rope belay endorsement at the session's conclusion.
Top-Rope Belay Endorsement
The first step in starting your vertical adventure, the participant will gain a basic introduction to the skill required to climb on top-rope. The clinic includes knot tying skills, belaying skills, and a belay endorsement examination. Upon completion and endorsement participants will be free to belay other climbers during open hours.

Lead Climbing and Belay Endorsement
Ante up the intensity of your climbing! Learn to sport climb in a safe environment. The clinic will cover the basics of lead belaying, clipping, leading, and safe falling. Climbers must be able to climb at the 5.9 level and be belay endorsed. Completion and endorsement of the course will permit the climber to lead on the ARC rock climbing wall at the discretion of the staff.

Kids' Climbing
Does your child have a lot of energy? Have they always tried to climb everything in sight? Bring them in for some climbing fun.
Instruction is given on safety, the climbing equipment used, basic climbing techniques, and climbing commands. Following this brief orientation, it is time to get on the wall and climb. A number of different routes may be climbed as the kids try to make it to the top. Additional activities like basic knot tying or bouldering (climbing low to the ground from side to side) may also take place if time permits.
