Climbing Clinics

Whether you are looking to get off the ground or go to new heights, we offer a variety of short clinics designed to teach you the basics.

Climbing 101 – Intro to Climbing Class

Participants will learn and practice fundamental climbing techniques, climbing gear use, climbing wall operations and expectations, and everything else needed to safely climb at a gym. Topics include balance and posture, what to look for in your harness and shoes, various hand positions, route difficulty ratings, and more. Staff will provide personal coaching and everyone will have time to practice. If you've never learned the fundamentals, or if you've never climbed, this class is for you. No climbing knowledge or gear is required.

Register/pay for climbing clinics at the ARC adventure center during climbing wall operating hours at least 4 days in advance.

Classes

All classes are 4 nights in total and will meet at the ARC climbing wall.

  • Tuesday/Thursday from 2-4pm - June 14, 16, 21, & 23
  • Monday/Wednesday from 2-4pm - July 11, 13,18, & 20

Schedule subject to change.

The final class will focus on instruction specific to the top-rope belay endorsement. All participants will receive the top-rope belay endorsement at the session's conclusion.

*Youth ages 8-16 years old, may sign up after participating in a Youth Climbing Introductory Drop-in orientation*

Top-Rope Belay Endorsement Clinic

Top rope climbing photo The first step in starting your vertical adventure, the participant will gain a basic introduction to the skill required to climb on top-rope. The clinic includes knot tying skills, belaying skills, and a belay endorsement examination. Upon completion and endorsement participants will be free to belay other climbers during open hours.

Register/pay for climbing clinics at the ARC adventure center during climbing wall operating hours at least 4 days in advance. Price is per clinic date. All clinics are single days.

All clinics will meet at the ARC climbing wall.

Lead Climbing and Belay Endorsement Clinic

Ante up the intensity of your climbing! Learn to sport climb in a safe environment. The clinic will cover the basics of lead belaying, clipping, leading, and safe falling. Climbers must be able to climb at the 5.9 level and be belay endorsed. Completion and endorsement of the course will permit the climber to lead on the ARC rock climbing wall at the discretion of the staff.

Youth Climbing Introduction

Does your child have a lot of energy? Have they always tried to climb everything in sight? Bring them in for some climbing fun.

This is an informal and great opportunity for youth ages 8-16, to try out climbing with no obligations! Adventure Recreation Staff will be present to offer any assistance or answer any questions that individuals may have.

$12 members
$15 non-members

All drop-in sessions will take place on Friday afternoons from 2:30-4pm

  • Fridays from June 3 - July 29
    • *No Drop-in on July 1.
